Understanding a Skimmer Weir

The weir is designed to skim just the top 1/4 inch of water. It also keeps the leaves from floating out when the pump is off. Make sure that the weir is able to move freely. Sometimes leaves and sticks can get stuck in the weir and cause it to stick in the “up” position. This can “dam up” the skimmer opening, causing the skimmer to suck in air.
