Skimmer Setups
Setup #1 – Skimmer Connected to Drain
Normally the front port of the skimmer is plugged and the back port is plumbed to the suction side of the pump, but there are occasions where the front port is plumbed elsewhere.
In this diagram, the main drain is tied into the front port of the skimmer. This keeps the pool builder from having to run a separate suction line from the main drain to the pump.
In this setup, it is important that the float valve be set to regulate the flow of water going through the skimmer. The flap is shut half-way to force some water to be drawn up through the main drain. This helps to insure water clarity.
