| In the diagram below, there is a sand filter with a multiport valve in the backwash position. The water enters through the bottom port of the filter and goes through the laterals. The water travels up through the sand bed and the trapped dirt and particles are flushed out. The backwash water then goes into the diffuser at the top of the filter and out through the upper port. The backwash valve then directs the backwash water out to the sewer line. Filters should be backwashed on a regular basis in order to remove the dirt and debris that is trapped in the filter in the normal course of operation. DO NOT VACUUM THE POOL WITH THE VALVE IN THIS POSITION. |
